some friends

this is just a post with pictures of me and some of my friends. enjoy!

kanti, my child. i have a child in nearly every village. this one is mine because he is so sweet, unlike other little boys his age and his parents have both passed away.

this is little sharif, my child in town. he is actually hausa, not fulani, ...but he is precious when he gives me a hug and says, "i love you" or "akoy chewing gum." his father has passed away. communicating is always an adventure with his family, because i know very, very little hausa.

typical fulani boy. the stance, the hat, the goofy clothes, the jewelry.

baby ibrahim and me at his naming ceremony in december. ibrahim is the firstborn of some of my good hausa friends.

a fulani chief in a village near my town. this man is hilarious. he is very protective of sarah and i. he will talk about anything! this picture was taken in his rat infested hut!

musa is my child in the middle. he is not that happy of a kid and is sort of shunned by the rest of the village. he was pretty hateful when i first began visiting his village, but now he is more loving.

boozwa is a fulani friend in one village. she is now the mother of five. she has lost 3 other children. she is a joyful lady...she believes!

boozwa, me, and the 4 day old baby.

maryia, abu, and maryia. three young fulani girls. all newly wed. both of the maryia's share a husband. the husbands are brothers. these girls are so silly.

fulani man on a camel. he refused to let me ride. how dare he!

one day in the village, i learned the art of making fulani mascara. you just roll the metal bar across the little stone stuff and then ...

...put the crushed product in its cute little bottle. voila!
